BABOR

OUR HISTORY

The history of BABOR began in 1956. What is today a modern brand that has captured the hearts of all those looking for more for their skin, began with the vision of an audacious scientist. In a kitchen in Cologne.

BABOR was founded by chemist Dr. Michael Babor. He developed HY-OIL, which cleanses the skin with natural oils, and laid the foundation for countless award-winning skin care innovations.

To this day, the family business and well-founded scientific research form part of BABOR's DNA. The icon of the BABOR range is the ampoule. Each small glass ampoule contains exactly the perfect dose of the active ingredient, so that even its 2ml have an immediately visible effect.

The foundation of Dr. Babor GmbH in Cologne in 1956 marked the beginning of a new era in institute cosmetics - the beauty revolution.

An interdisciplinary team, focused on sustainability, continuously examines all processes and develops solutions for even more sustainable work. Our focus is "green production".

BYE CO2

The objective: not only to offset CO2 emissions, but also to actively avoid them.The way forward: production at BABOR's headquarters in Aachen has been CO2-neutral since 2014, thanks to the use of green electricity, photovoltaics and eco-natural gas, neutral to the environment. Since 2020, BABOR's activity and products are characterised by a neutral carbon footprint. In collaboration with ClimatePartner, BABOR has accurately calculated its CO2 emission and compensates for all the emissions it cannot avoid on its own - both in terms of the emissions that the company and its employees produce, and in what regarding your products. In total, BABOR offsets 8,050,770 kg of CO2 – which is equivalent to the CO2 emissions produced by a long-haul flight between Düsseldorf and New York. BABOR is countering its CO2 emissions by founding a wind farm in the Philippines. At the same time, the company supports the worldwide Plastic Bank initiative. In Haiti, Indonesia and the Philippines, people are collecting plastic from beaches and thus improving their incomes. This plastic is recycled as social plastic and thus new products are created. For every ton of CO2 offset, BABOR simultaneously offsets 10 kg of plastic waste.

ECOLOGICAL PACKAGING

The objective: all BABOR packaging must be 100% recyclable and the use of plastic must be reduced by 30%.The way: BABOR no longer uses plastic fillings in its packaging and relies on FSC-certified paper when it needs to be used. The people responsible for the packaging development are currently designing the first packaging from recycled material, eliminating the need to wrap the products in cellophane where possible, and they are also rethinking the design of the shipping cases.

NATURAL INGREDIENTS

The goal: all formulas will be free from environmentally harmful microplastics or synthetic polymers. Only certified substances and alternatives will be used as an option to harmful raw materials.

The way: all new formulations are developed without microplastics or synthetic polymers. Whenever possible, existing formulations will be replaced by alternatives, in the course of product relaunch, until 2023. If necessary, polymers that conserve resources and are environmentally friendly will be used instead. Only properly certified palm oil derivatives are used and their consumption will be reduced.

This ambitious project is being supervised and coordinated by a transversal Sustainability Department. This makes a continuous scrutiny of the processes and develops initiatives for an even more sustainable work. This direction was established in 2020. However, BABOR's philosophy of sustainability has a tradition of more than 60 years: BABOR was founded in 1956 with the category of “natural biomedical cosmetics”. Respect for nature is therefore deeply rooted in BABOR's DNA. BABOR was one of the first companies ever to tackle problems such as wastewater treatment and waste separation. For the past 14 years, the icing on the cake has been placed by a “green” courier: thanks to the collaboration with DHL, all deliveries are CO2 neutral. For shorter distances, BABOR employees use an electric vehicle. BABOR was the first company in Aachen to install charging stations for HQ employees' electric vehicles and supports the transition to electric mobility.

Say hello to Nature Strong, OPI first natural-derived nail lacquer. No compromises. With this exciting news, we know you have some questions: How long does it last? What is its impact on the environment? What is its composition? So let's answer each of them.

WHAT DOES ‘NATURAL ORIGIN’ MEAN?'

 Good question. Our formula is up to 75% of natural origin. This means that the classic polish ingredients that make up that portion of our formula are derived from nature rather than from synthetic sources. These are ingredients derived from plants and minerals. We only include cosmetic ingredients that, according to our study, have more than 50% natural origin. This study is carried out based on our knowledge of ISO 16128 (part 1 and part 2).

WITHOUT THE SAME INGREDIENTS AS AN ORIGINAL POLISH. DOES IT WORK THE SAME WAY ?

 This is a frequently asked question, and the answer is yes. There are many nail polishes on the market that are natural but don't last, which can be a big disappointment, so it was important to us that Nature Strong had the same durability that we love about our Nail Lacquer range. Its formula contains nitrocellulose of plant origin and offers up to 7 days of duration, offering shine, easy application and fast drying. Yes, yes and yes.

HOW MANY SHADES DOES NATURE STRONG HAVE?

We've created 30 new shades offering a wide palette of earthy nude colours, bright pops of color and rich tones, timeless creamy shimmer shades. Each shade was inspired by what we love about nature and will allow you to take on the world. And that's not all, we created an optional Top Coat designed to add extra shine and protection to your manicures and pedicures.
